Discuss everything Star Wars here. From the prequels to the up coming sequels and everything in between.

Man, the prequels may have been the worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. Even the third one isn't fun anymore for the terrible acting and complete overkill of CGI.

I am weird enough that I still rank Revenge of the Sith as my 3rd favorite behind ESB and RoJ.
Certainly not a great movie by any means.

Never been a fan of ANH. It's very clunky. And very Lucas-y on lots of re-watches.

I didn't watch any of the Star Wars films until about two months before Revenge of the Sith came out. I had played some games and enjoyed them well enough but it was almost principle for me because I'd say that I hadn't seen them and people would be all like "ZOMG, you haven't seen STAR WARS!?!" and it was very amusing to me. So my wife wanted to go see RoTS at the opening show and was going to sit in line all day with her terribly annoying brother so I decided to be a nice guy and do a crash-course through the entire series in time to go with her. The verdict? RoTS is easily my favorite because it's got three incredibly badass fight scenes in it and the, despite the dialogue immediately preceding it being horrible, Anakin's change into Vader and the assault on the Temple is dark and awesome and I even got a bit of a lump in my throat when the younglings think he's there to help and then the lightsaber comes out. The original trilogy has far better acting and had I watched them when I was younger, they might have been a lot cooler but to be honest, watching them in 2005 made me say "Man, these special effects really, really suck." Not necessarily fair but I think a lot of the love for the original is nostalgia for when those SE were amazing. So yeah...I'll watch the first of the newest trilogy to see if I enjoy the direction but I assume there will be lightsaber battles and that's enough for me.

I was born in 86, so as far as loving the OT, it's not nostalgia so much as they're simply timeless. Story is great with a metric ton of memorable characters (even people with a cursory knowledge of SW could name 10 OT characters) and quotes, and one of the greatest realized worlds ever put forth. Here is where the OT still holds up over the PT; the practical sets and creatures give a lived-in feeling to the world, the dirty Tatooine huts, the trash compactor, the Ewok village. The digital sets of AOTC and ROTS, while good looking, fell very sterile; I'm always aware the actors are on a green screen set and not actually interacting with anything, and it causes a bit of a disconnect as a viewer. The PT humor is also too broad and mostly not very funny, compared to the dry wit in the originals.
That said, I still like Menace and Sith, just nowhere on the level of the OT. But as horrible as the dialogue and romance is, there's still story moments that resonate (the final 10 minutes of Sith, NOOOOOO aside, are amazing bringing everything full circle) and it delivers on the audio/visual action front (that Darth Maul handicap barrel still gives me chills).
But fuck Attack of the Clones right in its ear.

AoC is the only in the entire series that's flat out terrible in every way other than special effects. The 4 big action sequences are about the only things good about the movie. Sure, there was a "romance" in there, but we all know it's terrible, and it's because of Lucas.
The 4 big action scenes are:
1, speeder chase by Obi-Wan and Anakin on Zam Wesell in Coruscant. 2, Obi-Wan vs. Jango Fett I on the Kamino. 3, Obi-Wan vs. Jango Fett II in the astroid fields outside of Geonosis 4, Yoda vs. Count Dooku

Empire is the greatest film of all time, but because it is Star Wars, it doesn't get recognition. I was a huge Star Wars mark in the 80s, 90s, and 00s, but I could care less nowadays. I hope Disney gives Star Wars the Marvel treatment, but I do not have high hopes.

I do in terms who've they hired and how they've managed to let MArvel do its thing without micromanagement. They let those talented writers and directors (seriously, what a dream team they have on those films right now) put their SW love into their projects, we can get a universe every bit as awesome as the MCU, maybe even stack up to the originals. I don't think anyone doubts that all of the PT's issues started and stopped with Lucas, and with him gone and superior talent taking over, it seems like it's in good hands.

The problem with Lucas is the same with Vince, he surrounded himself with yes men.

Yeah the Lucas/Vince similarities are amazing, the constant editing of history as well.
For anyone who hasn't seen them, go check out redlettermedia.com for their Star Wars prequel reviews, the comedy is dark at times but they do tear them to shreds. All their reviews are hilarious but yeah, Star Wars is what put them on the map.

Still far and away Plinkett's best work, you always knew you hated the movies you just couldn't figure out all eight hundred and six reasons why.

Exactly, I could never nail down why they didn't sit well with me, something was just off. I really enjoy Half in the Bag, I like they're crappy quality movie cliche sketches, their "bad acting" acting always makes me laugh.
