As an overall PPV, Royal Rumble 2005 is such a great show. Not just for match quality--and make no mistake it's got match quality. Edge/Shawn and the two title matches are ***+ and the Rumble is a Top 5 Rumble.
But it's everything besides the matches that make the PPV for me. The theme of the show with the awesome "West Side Story" motif. The hilarious backstage number drawing segments with great interactions with Eddie/Flair and Christian/John Cena that are just classic.
I also forgot how great that Rumble match was. I mostly just remembered it for Vince tearing both quads and screaming at everyone from his ass. But it's got Eddie and Benoit going 30+, the whole roster setting aside it's differences to eliminate Hasaan, and WWE's top 2 stars finishing the rumble and the botch actually adds to the match in a way because it just happened so perfectly.
Just an overall fun viewing experience from the opening "There's gonna be a rumble tonight!" to Batista celebrating his victory.
Wasn't sure where to post this but I figured it could go in the Network section since it's on the Network.

Agreed, a really good Royal Rumble match with loads of talent and an interesting finish setting up the ascent of Batista and Cena.

That's the one with the Evolution/Eddie comedy skits before the Rumble match, wasn't it?

That's the one with the Evolution/Eddie comedy skits before the Rumble match, wasn't it? Yes sir! My favorite part is Eddie giving the number back and the audience assumes that's it and then he gives up Flair's wallet too. Great segment. Don't forget Tomko refusing to give Christian a beat and then Christian drops a wonderfully cheesy rap rhyming Transylvania with WrestleMania.

Tomko's greatest moment right there.
I really wish they would've have pissed away the Cena/Christian fued, because they would've had some fun matches.

If you watch carefully after Christian is done rapping you will notice Tomko brushes Christian's shoulder off.

Also, Daniel Puder got chop-raped by Holly, Benoit and Eddie. Very fun.

I LOVE that Rumble, actually. The botch ends up being more interesting then the actual finish I think, because in a weird way it still kept Cena very strong. At the time, I was a much bigger Cena fan then Batista. I still thought Orton had potential as a babyface though...which he clearly did not.
Edge/Shawn was AWESOME. Loved that fued. WWE really booked Edge pretty well from his comeback in 04 through his heel turn and fued with HBK. Great stuff from Edge too. Triple H/Orton was on this show, right? Didn't Orton get badly concussed during the match and HHH had to basically wrestle himself to a finish? The JBL WWE Title program completely escapes me, unless it was the Big Show/Angle/JBL three way. Rest of the undercard escapes me at the moment, but I am tempted to go back and revisit. 2004-2005 was an awesome time, IMO.
