Just watched the season finale and HOLY SHIT that was one of the best hours of TV I've ever seen.

I told you so!
As weird as the show is, it does enough to keep me interested. I don't know what else they can do in season 2, but I'll be aboard for a while longer.

Apparently the ended season one with how the book ended, so season two should be all new stuff.

I posted this on CBR. Reposting it here.
I don't know what I'm watching exactly. I'm sure there's a subtext and metaphors for all sorts of things, but I am missing almost all of them.
The show presents the premise that people are trying to cope with a disaster that cannot be explained. The GR are trying to make people remember their loss...except NOT A SINGLE PERSON ON THE SHOW HAS FORGOTTEN. Nobody has forgotten. When Nora went to NYC, nobody there forgot it (granted, she went to a conference specifically about the event). Nobody in Mapleton has forgotten. Literally NOBODY has forgotten. So I have no idea why the GR exists, because nobody actually forgotten, and most can't even cope with the idea of trying to forget. People around the world are just angry. Angry about what exactly is not clear. Are people angry about the event? Are people angry at the lack of explanation? Are people angry at the GR, who are trying to make sure nobody forgets? What about the deer? What about the dogs? What about Kevin's father, the previous police chief who was institutionalized for insanity? What is up with Holy Wayne? Why does the government want to kill him? Why does he have Asian young girls as groupies? Why has he literally, spread his seed among his Asian female followers? Does Holy Wayne actually have powers? Why is the hunter shooting dogs? Why is he always hanging around Kevin? How did Kevin's son (who was defending Christine) get back to Mapleton from Nevada so quickly?
Is the show about people trying to cope? Is the show about one man trying to cope (police chief Kevin Garvey Jr specifically)? Is the show about how people cope?
What is this show? Why does it only provide more questions?

I think the GR is not about people literally forgetting, but moving on. They don't want people to get over it. As what the show is about, this is a great read:http://www.vox.com/2014/9/7/6116687/leftovers-depression-hbo

A note, I haven't read any serious break downs or reviews of this show. Normally I would, but this is such a weird show that I want to digest everything myself.

Just saw the last episode again.
It seems like Kevin wished for his family from Holy Wayne. His son is back, his wife seems to have felt life again with Jill joined her briefly in the GR house, Jill seems better now that she almost died (again), and even the stray dog came back and seems normal.
I get that the GR really are keeping people from moving on, but I still don't get why. I know the book ends with the finale, so next season has no script to follow.
Also, this finale turned me around quite a bit. I was very meh on the show, but this last episode did something nice for the viewers, instead of just more death and depression.

I'm going to grab this show and marathon on it. Heard a lot about it and lots of good things. Looking for new stuff to watch anyway...
