So, I figured I would dedicate this thread for talking about what we all do for jobs and careers. So, if you feel inclined, share what dirty jobs you do to earn that dirty money. Also discuss any interesting stories or greviences you have from your job.
Ive talked about it before on the blog but I own a small buisness. I'm a pet sitter, dog walker, certified dog trainer, pet groomer and I also work at a vets office. I honestly love my job and most of the time I find it very enjoyable. I worked hard to build up a great reputation in the tri-county area and build up a long client list. I have plenty of interesting (and sometimes infuriating) stories, if you want more just say the word. This happened to me somewhat recently.
So there's another pet sitter in my area who to be honest is no competition with me. It's basically a bored housewife who seems like a bit of a drunk to me. So recently she (Dawn) was going on a vacation but that coincided with one of her clients going on vacation as well. She needed somebody to cover for her and since we had talked a few times before asked me to do it. So, she introduces me to her clients, they are comfortable with the switch and I do the job.
They come home and according to them I did a much better job than Dawn did. They told me the two dogs (two corgi's) seemed happier and more content when they got back, the house was in better shape than when it's left with Dawn, the neighbors told them I had been playing with the dogs in the backyard multiple times and they seemed to really like that I left some homemade dog treats for the dogs when I left. So they ask me if I would have a problem being their pet sitter from then on. I thought about it for a second but I did say yes. it turned out to be a good choice as they are an older couple who take vacations and cruises regularly.
On top of that, they told two of their friends who also use Dawn about me and I ended up getting them as clients as well. I honestly wasn't trying to steal this women's clients, I really saw it as a one off deal. I felt a little bad about it but I wasn't going to say no to new clients. Anyway, onto the good part. A couple of months down the line I'm coming out of a store and waiting by my truck is Dawn. Almost instantly she starts cursing me out. And this wasn't a couple oh shits and fucks. This is a barrage of pretty vulgar insults. I try to plead my case but it does no good. At one point I really thought she was going to hit me. Then the topper to it all, right before she storms off she tells me "I'll pray for you". I had to resist the urge to laugh at that one.
Since then she's tried to disparage my buisness and name to little to no success. Maybe later I'll post a screencap of something she wrote about me on Craigslist that I got taken down. So yeah, apparently even the pet sitting buisness can be ruthless and aggressive.
