Just curious: Does anyone here regularly play pick-up ball, or in any leagues? I know I've talked to a couple of people on the blog who play. Any fun stories? How about dealing with the typical idiots in pick-up ball?

Considering I'm from another country experiences undoubtedly vary but I'll share anyway.
Played in an adult league for about 5-6 years now, 2 seasons a year, and never had a big problem with other teams. There's always gunna be one team that abuses the refs or throw their weight harder than required, but on the whole people just wanna have fun playing basketball. You should definitely give it a try because the whole team atmosphere, catching up after a game for drinks and laughing at all our stuff-ups, makes you feel so young.
We actually have a fine system where we dish out $2 fines in a meeting post-game for really good and really bad plays, and other random stuff (think "that's a paddlin" mentality) and it all goes towards a big piss up at the end of the year.

Nope. I know I would enjoy it, but I am far too out of shape to do it.

I play a lot of pickup ball at my school. There's always a healthy amount of idiots, usually the show-offs and wanna-be dunkers.

I think what really drives me crazy is those guys who act like evening basketball at the YMCA is the Final Four or something.

I play, though not as often as I used to. I'm at that awkward level where in most games I'm either the best player or the worst, and both are frustrating. I'm not quite a good enough ball handler (or tall enough) to play well on the really competitive courts, but I'm too athletic and experienced to play on the "just for fun" courts.
I really should put in the time to get better (I was pretty good in high school and would presumably get good again with practice), but I just haven't found the time.
