Any wrestlers or announcers that you have changed your mind on after watching more of them or revisited their matches?
Listening to Larry Z on Nitro over the past few years, I like him a lot more than I did during Nitro's live years, when I couldn't stand him.

Michael Hayes. Going back and watching the World Class stuff with the Freebirds is great, but watching the WCW early 90s Freebirds with Hayes and Garvin is horrible. I can only stand so much stalling before it gets too boring to watch. I forgot how boring they were in WCW.

I have a much greater appreciation for the Big Boss Man than I did when I was a kid; dude could really work. Also, I have to admit I enjoy watching Hogan's old stuff. I *hated* the guy growing up, but now I can appreciate him for being such a smart worker and knowing how to play the crowd better than maybe anybody ever.

Tito Santana is also one for me. I always knew he was good but watching a lot of his 80s house show stuff made me realize how great he could be. He had some legit wars with Valentine that were tons of fun.

Good topic! Let's go way old...
- WrestleMania 1 is actually a really fun show (in full form, minus the music edits). It's the kind of show everyone (myself included) says "well you should watch it once for historical value" but nobody seems to actually like. There's not a lot of great wrestling, but I really enjoy the atmosphere -- I like that it looks like an 80s MSG house show and the announcers seem in awe of everything the whole time, which is pretty cool.

That is basically how I feel about WrestleMania 9.

Dusty. I went from loving him as a kid to hating that fat fuck and now loving him again. He was just so good at what he did.

Reluctantly... The Hardyz. I hated them because they were fruity, but goddamn what a team, and it's hard to come by a good one nowadays.

Vince McMahon-Announcer.
I find it incredibly painful to go back and watch some of the older shows that have him as an announcer because of his play by play. We mock "Whattamanuever!", "Baaaaaaaack bodydrop!", and "1-2-hegotohnohedidn't" but, man, his schtick his annoying as shit to me. I can't fault his energy, though.
On the flipside, watching some of the pre-nWo Nitro episodes really makes me appreciate Bischoff as an announcer. Yes, he could be annoying with giving away Raw results and other potshots but he was pretty good in general at promoting guys and talking about the match at hand.

Goldust. Me and my best friend hated him because we were little homophobes and thought he was creepy. Now we both love the guy. He was, and still is, a solid wrestler. He was doing his job of creeping people out perfectly. And as proven with Booker T, he can be downright hilarious.

I had AOL back in the 90s, and the WWF section had Vince growling out 'WELCOME TO THE WWF ON AMERICA... ONLINE!' and it was just super. UP and DOWN with a suplex! COME ON, REF! I've come to love David Crockett for similar reasons. He was no Lance Russell, but he always had energy. Larry Matysik on the other hand was painful and still is.

I remember hating his announcing as a kid, but as I watch some old Nitros now, I think he was just fine.

I changed my mind about Superstar Billy Graham. For a long time I thought he was that TV preacher. Now I'm pretty sure he was a completely different guy. Possibly the preacher's son.
And for several months I thought "The Boogeyman" was God. Turns out I had a severe chemical imbalance in my brain.

Oh don't get me wrong, Vince's over-the-top enthusiasm is a thing of beauty in the right place. The thought of him doing the Royal Rumble intro again is enough to make me giddy but his general announcing is just grating to me now.

Speaking of announcers, I have to say Josh Matthews. I always viewed him as an annoying little shit backstage, but I saw a lot of potential in him after watching Are You Serious. He actually had decent chemistry with Road Dogg and Puppet H.
